Community and Outreach Director

Founded in Mexico in 2015, MassChallenge provides startups with a wide range of support, including office space, connections to a vast network of innovative leaders, corporate executives, seasoned entrepreneurs, experts and investors.

MassChallenge Mexico is looking for a Community and Outreach Director who's main responsibilities are:

The primary goal of this role is to build and strengthen the community around MassChallenge Mexico while expanding its reach to LATAM in a strategic manner (starting with Colombia and Guatemala). In addition to this, the Community & Outreach Regional Director will be in charge of developing relationships with the entrepreneurship ecosystem and deliver the strategic projects that will strengthen the positioning of MC in the mid-term.

Main responsibilities:

Strategically expand the value position of MC within LATAM

  • Work with the Managing Director to develop a strategy to position MassChallenge in Guatemala, Colombia, and ultimately LATAM
  • Identify key stakeholders in the LATAM region starting with Colombia and Guatemala
  • Create and develop a relevant community in the region
  • Liaise with local governments, accelerators, incubators, universities, foundations and partners to develop collaboration projects


Lead the community team to ensure we attract the best startup talent to MassChallenge

  • Supervise the Community Director and its team to ensure that MassChallenge Mexico is attracting the best startups available to its acceleration program
  • Develop a strategy to attract the best startups in LATAM (Initially Colombia and Guatemala) to MCMX


Ensure the engagement of the community around MC

  • Work with the community director to ensure the creation of value to marketing nodes and other organizations that will strengthen the positioning of MC in LATAM


Develop and strengthen the relationships with ecosystem pillars (Government, investors, foundations & universities)

  • Lead and successfully execute the fundraising strategy and projects from ecosystem pillar organizations
  • Define strategic projects that will enhance the value proposition for MassChallenge and will develop new capabilities for the organization
  • Ensure the quality in the delivery of services of MC


Develop and deliver strategic projects that will strengthen the positioning of MC in the long run

  • Ensure the execution of programs with government, corporate partners, and universities.


Position Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience working in the entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • Degree: MBA or Graduate degree a plus
  • The successful candidate must have consulting and project management experience
  • Strong understanding of the external market, competitive landscape, and trends that impact our business.
  • Exceptional relationship skills, negotiating skills, and the ability to build rapport with internal and external constituencies.
  • Demonstrated capability to drive substantial market growth within a compressed time frame.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication.
  • Clear focus and demonstrated capability for data-driven decision making based on in-depth analytics.
  • Strong process and customer service orientation.
  • Capable to work under pressure and strict deadlines.
  • A professional, hands-on, resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
  • Skilled in leveraging limited resources to create big successes.
  • Enjoy working in a deadline-oriented high-pressure environment with many conflicting priorities - and the ability to effectively prioritize.
  • Ability to lead, a willingness to be led, and comfort with situational leadership.


Mexico Team Member

  • Work closely with the MassChallenge Mexico team, especially with the Operations Manager and the Community team, to ensure excellence in the execution of grants.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ad-hoc projects as needed
  • High-level of flexibility, and a willingness to work long days and non-traditional hours



  • Minimum 2-3 years in a in a management or operations role
  • Bachelor’s degree required in engineering, management or accounting
  • Exceptional written and oral communication, and relationship-building skills across multiple levels of management.
  • Fluency in Spanish is mandatory and in English preferable.
  • High level of mastery of business software such as Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Goal-oriented, ambitious, self-starter, detail oriented and passionate
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
  • A professional, hands-on, resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as a team player, and to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time, all the while managing the fundraising pipeline
  • Ability to collaborate across teams
  • Enjoy working in a fluid, dynamic organization with a minimal amount of direction
