Program Director

Department: Programming
Location: Boston, MA

The Program Director is a Boston-based position. The Program Director will manage program planning & accelerator operations and will report to the Managing Director of MC Boston and oversees the Program team, including 2-3 direct reports who support startups and experts. The Program Director works across MassChallenge Boston and Rhode Island programs.

 

What You'll Do:

Planning & Program Support:

  • Design, develop, and coordinate all accelerator-related activities, including curriculum, programming, mentorship, startup services, and program-related accounts.
  • Oversee and manage the Program Team, including roles such as Startup Services Manager, the Community Manager, and Program Account Manager.
  • Develop tools and processes that work across MassChallenge Boston and Rhode Island programs and other projects/programs as needed.
  • Evaluate the success of each programming opportunity, and overall Accelerator, using quantifiable metrics such as number of attendees, post-event surveys, NPS scores across communities.
  • Support implementation of actions prescribed by Boston and headquarters as relevant, for example: RAPID frameworks and Expert Community frameworks.
  • Support communication across the program, to startups, and to other important partners/stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, and manage execution of new programming initiatives such as industry tracks.
  • Scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects with minimal outside assistance:
    • Present ideas for programmatic projects that might facilitate MassChallenge Boston and Rhode Island’s objectives.
    • Work with appropriate stakeholders, including outside partners, to undertake analysis and benchmarking of MC Boston and RI programs.
  • Support MC Boston and Rhode Island strategy and planning, and support actions.

Cycle Operations:

  • Develop a quarterly planning strategy for the Boston/RI Program Team to maximize value to startups.
  • Assist in the development of an annual program plan and budget for the Boston/RI program.
  • Coordinate the Boston/RI Program Team goals setting process each year, manage milestones, and communicate across the company.
  • Proactive identification of issues Startups, Mentors, and Speakers that need to be addressed in close collaboration with key stakeholders across the team.
  • Oversee and support all judging activities to ensure an engaging, fair, and equitable process for MC startups and judges.

Curriculum:

  • Create a cohesive and responsive accelerator program for MC Boston, and support related programs (e.g. MC Rhode Island).
  • Assess the quality of our programming/curriculum, and continue to evolve MC Boston offerings.
  • Oversee speaker management, startup engagement, and curriculum assessment.
  • Create projects that are (1) highly important to the success of the Boston program team and (2) to implement and scale processes across Programs, (e.g. industry tracks).
  • Prepare background materials and develop proposed action strategies in support of MassChallenge’s efforts to advance curriculum initiatives, including sector specific, diversity efforts, and programming partner opportunities.

 

Who You Are:

  • You have at least 7 years of experience, ideally in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment and with some experience as a manager.
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree.
  • You take a highly collaborative approach and able to work across teams and functions to achieve success. You have an ability to lead, a willingness to be led, and comfort with situational leadership.
  • You are inspired by the MassChallenge mission to help entrepreneurs win; a true startup enthusiast.
  • You have been heavily involved in startups community in some form, as a founder, mentor, or general supporter.
  • You have an ability to connect and engage with all stakeholders at varying levels. Able to influence people intelligently, understand people’s agendas and how MassChallenge can appropriately respond to those agendas.
  • You are extremely organized with a high attention to detail and very strong ability to prioritize and manage time. You are execution oriented. You are not just a planner but also a doer.
  • You have excellent interpersonal, written, speaking and customer relationship-building skills, across multiple levels of management.
  • You are skilled in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel required. Knowledge of Salesforce is preferred.
